Rules of the 6th competition

The Accademia Stefano Strata, by the will of the Fondazione Stefano Strata, organizes the 6th International Classical Guitar Competition “Stefano Strata-Città di Pisa”. The competition will be held in Pisa on the 15th, 16th and 17th of October 2015. The competition is open to guitarists of all nationalities born after January 1st, 1980.

The competition consists in two rounds:
Preliminary round: October, 15th and 16th (open only to the contestants’ teachers). Free program, including transcriptions, for an overall duration of 15 minutes.
Final round (6 finalists will be selected): October 17th (open to the public). Free program, for an overall duration of 15 minutes, consisting of pieces chosen from the Renaissance, Baroque, Classic or Romantic eras, with the possibility to include 20th-century composers like Barrios, Castelnuovo Tedesco, Torroba, Villa-Lobos, Rodrigo, Turina e Llobet. Transcriptions are allowed.

The following prizes will be awarded

1st prize: € 5.000,00, 3 concerts, certificate and plaque offered by the Municipality of Pisa;
2nd prize: € 2.500,00 and certificate;
3rd prize: € 1.500,00 and certificate;
Special award of € 1.000,00 for the best voted by the public, among the finalists.

All prizes will be awarded in the final round which will take place at the Pisa Congress Center.

Smart dress required for finalists.

The jury will be composed of renowned guitarists and their names will be published soon on this website. Their decision will be final.
All prizes will be awarded; however the jury may decide to award ex-aequos, except for the 1st prize which is indivisible. A competitor’s performance may be interrupted at any time by the jury.

Competitors shall have no rights regarding any partial or complete recordings that may be made during the rounds of the competition.

The exact time of the drawing and of the beginning of the rounds will be communicated to the competitors in advance.
All the names of the applicants will be posted on the Competition website and will not be removed.

Registration in the competition implies acceptance of these rules.

All applications must be sent to: Accademia Musicale Stefano Strata, Via Cuppari 20/B, 56124 Pisa, and received by October 7, 2015.
They must be accompanied by a photocopy of an identity document, a short curriculum vitae and a photograph of the applicant holding the guitar.

The registration fee is € 50,00 and can be paid upon arrival in Pisa, directly at the accademia secretary's office.
